On April 16, 2002, Ames True Temper, Inc. recalled nearly 650,000 wheelbarrows with plastic wheel assemblies or rims, pictured below. The plastic wheelbarrow rims can explode or break when being filled with compressed air, causing plastic shards to explode from the rim and striking consumers. The injuries from such explosions can be devastating.
